Latest Version Firefox Increases Bookmarks List Line Spacing

With recent updates to Firefox, bookmarks drop down list have increased the spacing between the lines and changed the font. Horrible! How do I revert back to previous display with normal gap between the lines.

1. Open a tab and enter about:config, and accept the warning.

2. Search the word proton. A few will come up.

3. Change all the ones that are true to false. One was already false so I kept it, and the last one had a 3, which I kept it 3.

4. Exit and restart Firefox.

This will also revert the right-click command boxes back to small squares.

Manual Solution if the above does not work

Unfortunately above solution may not work with recent updates. There is a manual method described below which works with the latest updates:

1. Using “Notepad” (I use free the “Programmers Notepad”) create a new CSS file called:

insert the following code and save the file:

menupopup > menuitem, menupopup > menu {
  padding-block: 4px !important;
:root {
  --arrowpanel-menuitem-padding: 4px 8px !important;

2. Navigate to folder

C:\Users\(current user)\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*.default-release\

and look for a folder named:

If there isn’t one, just create it.

(P.S. When in “current user” folder, you will need change folder view to display the hidden folders and navigate the above path.)

3. Navigate back to newly created  userChrome.css file and copy/paste it into folder:

C:\Users\(current user)\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\****.default-release\chrome\

And that’s it. Restart Firefox.
